I had the same issue with the gs 1.1 release. If you switch to night builds, this issue will be fixed.
The issue is not swing related (so I guess) and even if you refresh after every click and revalidate the layout, the issue will still persist. It gets worst if you display popup menus over graph nodes, etc ...
